Election results 2024 LIVE: Radical preacher Amritpal, son of Indira Gandhi's assassin win LS polls as Independents
Radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh and Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa, the son of one of the assassins of Indira Gandhi, are have made their maiden entry to Parliament.
Singh won the Khadoor Sahib by a margin of 1,97,120 votes over his nearest rival and Congress candidate Kulbuir Singh Zira while Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa won in Faridkot by 70,053 over AAP’s Karamjit Singh Anmol.
Both Singh and Khalsa contested the polls as Independents.

Election results 2024 LIVE: BJP wins bypolls to all five assembly seats in Gujarat
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday won all five assembly seats in Gujarat where byelections were held last month, increasing its tally in the 182-member state assembly to 161.
Elections to Porbandar, Manavadar, Khambhat, Vaghodiya and Vijapur assembly constituencies were necessitated after the sitting Congress and independent MLAs resigned and joined the BJP.
The BJP fielded all the turncoats from their respective seats in the bypolls held on May 7.
Arjun Modhwadia won from Porbandar by a huge margin of over 1.16 lakh votes. He polled 1.33 lakh votes against 16,355 received by Congress’ Raju Odedara.
Modhwadia had won the 2022 assembly election from Porbandar as a Congress candidate, defeating BJP’s babu Bokhiria. As a BJP candidate, Bokhiria had defeated him in the 2012 and 2017 elections.
BJP’s C J Chavda won from Vijapur by defeating Congress’ Dinesh Patel by over 56,000 votes.
Arvind Ladani retained Manavadar, defeating his Congress rival Haribhai Kansagara by over 31,000 votes.
Khambhat and Vaghodiya candidates Chirag Patel and Dharmendrasinh Vaghela also retained their respective seats. They defeated Congress’ Mahendrasinh Parmar and Kanu Gohil, respectively, by the margins of over 38,000 and 82,000.
In the 2022 assembly elections, the BJP had won 156 seats. With Tuesday’s results, the ruling party’s strength rose to 161.

Buoyed by the INDIA bloc’s show in the Lok Sabha polls, Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday pushed for staking a claim to form the next government at the Centre and said the opposition alliance’s leaders will meet on Wednesday in New Delhi to decide on the Prime Minister’s face.
Addressing a news conference here after results and trends showed the BJP will miss the simple majority mark of 272 seats, Thackeray said leaders of the Congress and other parties are holding talks with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Telegu Desam Party (TDP) head Chandrababu Naidu to explore the possibility of their entry into the bloc.
The Kumar-led JD(U) and the TDP are constituents of the BJP-headed NDA which looks set to win more than 290 Lok Sabha seats as per latest trends and results, enough to form the next government in the 543-member House.
Thackeray alleged both Naidu, a former CM of united Andhra Pradesh, and Kumar were troubled by the BJP.
Both leaders are key to formation of the next government at the Centre.
“The common man has shown his power,” Thackeray said after the INDIA alliance crossed the 200- seat mark as per results and trends.
“There is a need to stake a claim to form the next government. The INDIA alliance meeting on Wednesday (in Delhi) will decide on the Prime Minister’s face,” he added.
